Trump Is Having Trouble Getting Celebrities To His Inaugration

Donald Trump is due to be sworn in at the end of the month, but at the moment, it seems like the proceedings are going to be pretty celebrity free.

So far, the only people confirmed to be performing are the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Rockettes, and America’s Got Talent contestant, Jackie Evancho. But that doesn’t seem to be from lack of trying, as Trump’s team has reportedly approached a number of big name performers like Elton John, Celine Dion, and Kiss only to be turned down every time.

And it seems to be the case that just about everyone Trump’s team has approached to perform has been unwilling, in spite of the payday being offered. That could be because they either have a personal objection to Trump’s presidency or because they want to avoid any kind of controversy that might follow from being publically associated with Trump.

Trump, in the meantime, has taken to Twitter to sort of manage the embarrassment that might come from being publically rejected by so many celebrities by sort of proactively rejecting them first. Trump tweeted:

“The so-called ‘A’ list celebrities are all wanting tixs to the inauguration, but look what they did for Hillary, NOTHING. I want the PEOPLE!”

So he is essentially saying, “I don’t need any celebrities, they are all losers anyway,” thus giving the lack of performers at his inauguration the air of intent, instead of being the result of the majority of celebrities not wanting to work with him.

As for the celebrities who are performing, not even all of them seem to be interested in performing. The Rockettes recently received a mass email from their union that essentially told them they could perform or be fired.

On Facebook, Amanda Duarte pointed out in a bit of dry wit, “It’s perfect, actually. What could be more fitting for this inauguration than forcing a group of women to do something with their bodies against their will?”
