Kim Kardashian Just Got Name-Checked By The Supreme Court

In case the current state of American politics has got you down, so basically if you’re part of everyone, here’s a little political news that might not be quite so depressing.

During a case reviewal by the Supreme Court, Kim Kardashian got a bit of a name check today.

While trying to nail down a definition of the word fraud in the legal sense, Justice Stephen Beyer brought up Kim Kardashian’s recent Paris robbery. He posited a hypothetical situation where a robber might lie to Kim in order to rob her might be the same as someone lying to a bank:

“If the local person comes to the door and says, ‘Dear Miss Kardashian, I am your local jewelry cleaner. Please give me your jewelry.’ She does. And that’s not fraud. He wanted to get the jewelry … He also believes that [her] friend had just loaned it for the evening, that she’s triple insured, that she won’t even lose any money because the publicity will be worth it. OK?”

It’s sort of a weird analogy since nothing like that happened. Kim was actually held at gunpoint and then bound with zip-ties in her bathroom, so the case he is suggesting doesn’t have much in common with the facts.

Secondly, he threw a bit of shade on Kardashian earlier in the hearing where he suggested she might be making the whole thing up. He had earlier mentioned the thief who robbed her and added, “If there is one.”

It’s a bit off-base since there is no evidence that this was anything but a violent crime of which Kim was an unfortunate victim.

But maybe Kim can take some solace in the fact that she just won a bit of real estate in the records of American jurisprudence.
