Along with colder temperatures, more of a reason to bundle up when we leave the house, and the return of the pumpkin spice latte, fall and winter also provide us with many more reasons to pay attention to detail when it comes to our skin. With lower humidity and the fireplaces we set to keep ourselves warm, we actually damage our skin just as much, if not more in the fall and winter than we do during the summer when we expose our bare skin to harsh UV rays more than ever.
So, to keep your skin healthy during the dryer, colder months, why not try these natural skin care treatments? Your skin will be left feeling soft and silky in no time at all.
Go Natural
When it comes to caring for your skin, it’s always best to go natural, and look for a product that has little to no manufactured and manmade, harsh chemicals. Coconut oil and olive oil have long since been used to keep the skin healthy, moisturized and hydrated.
These natural oils help with dry cuticles smooth out the rough patches of skin on the hands and elbows, and can sooth and condition itchy skin. Simply adding a thin layer of  extra-virgin olive oil or coconut oil to the skin before you apply a store bought moisturizer or cream, can give you the added extra you need to keep the skin lubricated, as well as giving yourself an extra dose of antioxidants.
Exotic Exfoliates
Good, strong, healthy skin isn’t achieved without doing a little dirty work first. Taking off the outer layers that are soaked with dirt and grime from the air we are surrounded in is vital, especially during the colder months of the year.
Look no further than your kitchen, or the produce aisles at the supermarket. Foods like yogurt and even coffee grounds, make for a great natural exfoliator. With the ability to remove dry skin, dirt and to penetrate the pores, the absence of harsh chemicals makes them much healthier to you and to the environment.
Even safe on the most sensitive of skin, the naturally stored lactic acid can really get down into the dirt, remove it from the skin and keep you healthier, moisturized and flake free.
Get Scrubbing
Along with a nice exfoliator to lift the dirt, scrubbing the skin to make sure it’s nice and clean, as well as soft and smooth, is important when trying to maintain healthy overall skin conditions. Just as with the exfoliator, you can look to the things already in your home to help you here. Not only is this a more economical way of keeping your skin healthy, but it’s extremely effective too.
One of the more popular choices in skin scrubs is an easy combination of sugar and any essential oil. Mixing equal amounts of oil and sugar and applying to the skin in small circular motions can help your skin remain naturally glowing and can give you a good amount of vitamins and minerals needed to hydrate the skin properly.
